The God Who Stays in the Valley

A Memoir of Loss, Betrayal, and the God Who Refused to Leave

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.Psalm 23:4

Written from inside the valley — not the far side of it.

The Book

You were told the valley was temporary. No one told you what to do when it wasn't.

This is one man's account of walking through the kind of grief that doesn't resolve on schedule — and finding, in the middle of it, a God who bears no resemblance to the one he was promised. Not a God who fixes things quickly. Not a God who rewards the faithful with safety. A God who simply refuses to leave.

It isn't written from the far side of hard things. It's written from inside them — honest about the cost, resistant to easy answers, and stubbornly sure that presence matters more than explanation.

If your faith is intact and your life is working, this book isn't for you. But if you're somewhere dark, holding something you were never meant to hold alone — stay. You are not the only one.

Praise

Insightful words and stories that move the heart and the soul. A book for anyone experiencing the Valley of Doubt and Despair. A powerful reminder that God remains near us and sustains us — particularly when his purposes for our Valleys may remain unclear.

— Reverend Vernon Isner, Chaplain

Raw, honest, and speaks directly to the heart. Jared has put words to what my soul has been wrestling with — what it means to truly trust God when life doesn't unfold the way you expected. The valley can feel lonely, but this book is a reminder that God has not left us there. It leaves you with one question: will you stay with God, as He stays with you, in the valley?

— Jonathan Abdul

This book was an incredible read from beginning to end. The story was so powerful and well written that it brought me to tears more than once. If you're looking for a book that will move you, inspire you, and keep you turning pages late into the night, I highly recommend this one.

— Lee Brewer

A raw, honest, and beautifully courageous journey through the kind of pain most of us carry quietly. It doesn't pretend God is always easy to understand — it dares to sit in the tension of faith: the anger, the silence, the confusion. If you've ever wondered whether God is truly present in the middle of your mess, this book reaches into that place and reminds you that you are not alone. It will challenge you, heal you, and above all, anchor you.

— Danielle Abner

About the Author

Jared Nathan Reall

Jared Nathan Reall didn't set out to write a book about faith. He set out to survive something — and wrote down what he found in the middle of it.
